So in a recent interview with the wonderful Ms. Cheles Bells she asked: who should play these characters, if When I See You were ever made into a movie? What a fun exercise that proved to be! If anyone has read this novel, you know that I keep my character descriptions pretty vague. I do this intentionally because I think readers enjoy filling out these details in their minds for themselves. However, answering this question for the blog interview proved to be insightful and I thought you might appreciate who I came up with, if When I See You were ever to be made into a movie.
So here we go.
I envision Ryan Gosling as Ethan Holloway less for his looks, although those are certainly nice, but more for his commanding style and intensity. I especially enjoyed Mr. Gosling in Crazy, Stupid Love and I could envision him playing Ethan Holloway quite easily.
Sadly, Ethan is upstaged by Brock Wainwright, who I always envisioned as Mr. Henry Cavill. In fact, the main character, Jordan Holloway, makes this connection early on in the book to the actor’s likeness. My favorite photographs of Henry are from The Tudors and although I’m transporting him to modern times as well as Texas, I think this actor could surely pull off the character of Brock Wainwright. Here’s one of my favorite pics of Henry Cavill.
Jordan Holloway was tough to imagine, even as the writer of this story. I’m not sure why I had so much trouble with this one. It took an entire day to find the perfect image of her. This is an actress who is not very well known, but she exhibits all the qualities that I’ve imagined Jordan Holloway to be. Her name is Cobie Smulders and I would love to see her play the strong, independent Jordan Holloway.
Then there’s Jordan’s best friend, Ashleigh Blondell, and the gorgeous Tate Mathews. Although these two are secondary characters, their roles in the main characters’ lives is an integral part of the story. I envision Evan Rachel Wood as Ashleigh and Josh Duhamel as Tate. So? Do you agree with my choices? Or, do you have your own in mind? Please comment.
